| Gloria Hunniford, TV and a radio presenter was named after actress Gloria Swanson. She is the mother of the late Caron Keating. She is credited as the first lady to have a daily radio show of her own on BBC Radio 2, where she hosted the lunchtime show and later the afternoon show for ten years.
Gloria Hunniford, originally a singer and a song writer in Canada also hosted Sounding Brass, a radio programme that included a live brass band. On TV, Gloria Hunniford hosted and appeared on many programmes including Open House Gloria Hunniford, Kilroy, Wogan, Holiday, Gloria Live and Songs of Praise. While working, Gloria Hunniford met Don Keating, who was at the time, the Current Affairs producer at BBC. They married in 1970 and were blessed with 3 children, but later separated in ’85, divorcing in ’92. In 1998, she married Stephen Way, the celebrity hairdresser, and now lives in Sevenoaks, Kent.
Gloria has won numerous prestigious media awards including Best Dressed Female and TV Personality of the Year. She has also made a successful health and fitness video, Fit for Life. She once appeared dancing and holding with Darren Bennett on the pro-celebrity BBC show Strictly Come Dancing. Gloria Hunniford has also appeared on the cover music video for She Drives me Crazy, the Muppets version of the UK. Currently, she is the presenter of Heaven and Earth with Gloria Hunniford, the ethics and religion show on BBC 1 which has been airing since 2006. |
